What is a learning by phone?
-
It's simply a
'phone call from the convenience of your own office or home, a
'phone call connecting you with a trained facilitator and with participants from anywhere in the world who
share your interest in learning and growing.
-
Learning by
phone sessions create a supportive environment where participants can tap
"the collective wisdom of the group" to meet challenges and share common interests.
-
The facilitator involves everyone so you benefit from the entire
group's experience, whether it's personal or job-related.
-
All you need is a telephone to participate in
this exciting new way to connect and to learn!

No more frontiers: anyone, from anywhere in the world can take
part

are straight into the session

-
The learning process is driven by the participant
(the learner), not by a teacher

allows people to grow and learn faster.

Develops
a new approach to communication skills, as you need to be clear and
concise.

The
anonymous aspect of the teleclass allows people to participate more
easily and share more personal feelings, experiences, without taking
huge risks
The emphasis is on connection between people,
relationships and teamwork, a perspective often lost in our busy lives
What are some applications of learning by phone?
- Learning by phone can be used for almost any situation where learning
through experience or interaction with others is important.
- It is particularly useful when developing new 'soft skills.'
Role plays and practice sessions with feedback really work well.
Participants seem to be less inhibited on the telephone, making a rich
learning environment
- Staying connected with clients. Imagine having regular phone
sessions with groups of clients on, e.g. how to better use the product /
service, discover challenges that the clients face, and/or opportunities
to improve product / service
How would learning by phone work in practice?
- Each session is carefully designed by the facilitator against a
specific set of outcomes
- All participants call into a single 'conference' number
- The call will generally last 55 minutes
- The facilitator or class leader welcomes each participant as they
join
- The context / outcomes of the session are explained
- The facilitator guides the discussion and calls on participants to
contribute, one at a time
- All participants are encouraged to contribute to the discussion by
the facilitator
- Learning points and conclusions are reviewed towards the end of the
call
Frequently asked questions about
learning by phone?
- Isn't it just a conference call? I don't need any more of them!
- it's not a conference call. It's a highly
focussed and participative learning session with specific learning
outcomes, progress to which are led by a trained facilitator
- I can't imagine learning anything over the 'phone
- the facilitator creates a virtual classroom
where each member is encouraged to contribute to the learning of the
group
- I couldn't possibly learn when I can't see anyone else
- experience shows that people are often less
inhibited on the 'phone and it is common that a very rich learning
environment is quickly established, each member being committed to the
outcome. You don't have the visual distractions of usual training
courses and your listening skills are enhanced.
- The quiet ones will get lost
- the facilitator is responsible for
optimising the contribution of each participant and will keep track of
this during the call
- What about noises off?
- we ask that participants use a quiet office
where there is a landline telephone and arrange to be undisturbed for
the duration of the call
